The Peninsula has many great places to run. The following are a few of the more popular venues:
The Noland Trail at the Mariner's Museum
The Noland Trail is a beautiful 5 mile trail that navigates the perimeter of Lake Maury and The Mariner's Museum. A great way to escape road running and traffic. The trail has distance markers every 1/2 mile and is a great place to train. The Mariner's Museum Park is located across from Christopher Newport University. The nearest cross streets are Warwick Boulevard and J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.
Newport News Park
Newport News Park is another wonderful running venue. Stop by the Park Office to get a map of the network of trail running through the forest between the park and neighboring Colonial National Historic Park. The network of more than 30 miles of trail provides nearly endless possibilities.
Sandy Bottom Nature Park
Sandy Bottom is a convenient place to run for both Hampton, Newport News, and Yorktown. The system of trails provides a variety of terrain, surfaces, and distances. Several races are held at the park annually including a 10k and a 24 hour ultra-relay. For a map please visit the link above or stop by the park to pick up a hard copy.
The Matteson Trail "Sentara Loop"
